Rider Chad Nations Best
Local equestrian rider Kara Chad completed two clean rounds Friday at the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup and helped Canada secure the second victory in a row for the 2014 Jumping Series.
For 18-year old Chad, it was a career-defining day as she stepped up to her first senior level Nations Cup and did so in style in Xalapa, Mexico.
After two rounds of competition, the event came to a thrilling head-to-head jump off against the clock between the US and Canada.
Only four riders went clear in the first round. Chad, riding 11-year old gelding Alberto II was one of them. In the second round, Chad completed another clear ride with the fastest time of 71.10 seconds. Fellow teammate Ian Millar also rode clean, and Jonathon Millar and Chris Sorensen, with four faults each, put Team Canada head-to-head with Team USA for a jump-off round between ‘Captain Canada’ Millar and American star Beezie Madden, which Millar won.
“This is my first senior Nations Cup, and it’s been an incredible experience – a dream come true”, Chad said. “The whole team is just amazing, they are all experienced riders. It’s been a bit intimidating, and there have been big expectations, but they couldn’t have been more welcoming to me”.
