Nick Skelton, British show jumping icon says hello to Alberto II

Nick Skelton originally purchased Alberto II (“Albert”) as a young horse after seeing huge amounts of potential. He knew no matter who or where Albert ended up he would be a top notch competitive horse. In 2011 Stone Ridge Farms purchased the 8-year old gelding during the Winter Equestrian Festival for Kara Chad, who was currently at the junior jumper level. Kara started showing Albert in 1.30m classes and over the next 3 years the new duo continued growing and succeeding their way through the ranks and forming a strong partnership.

In 2013, Kara and Albert were regularly competing at the Grand Prix level both in Europe and the United States and collecting very impressive and consistent results. In the beginning of 2014, at the Winter Equestrian Festival the partnership showed its true potential by qualifying and placing in feature Grand Prix events and and nearly making the Nations Cup Team in March. Soon after in May, the duo were selected to represent Canada at the Nations Cup in Xalapa Mexico, a crucial qualifying competition for the Barcelona Nation Cup Finals in September 2014. Being both Kara’s and Alberts first ever Nations Cup, they jumped two double clear rounds allowing Team Canada to win the FEI Furusiyya Nations Cup in Xalapa and qualifying Canada for the finals.

During this year’s circuit the team ran into Nick Skelton, where he said hello to his old friend, commented on how the partnership has grown, and even jokingly asked if he could have him back! I think he’s too late – these two have a very promising future ahead of them.
